Diagnostic Testing

Exercise Stress Test

A test designed to increase an individual's heart rate - to "stress" the heart while hooked up to an EKG while observing changes in blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm.

Exercise Nuclear Stress Test

An exercise stress test with the addition of nuclear imaging to observe blood supply through the coronary arteries.

Pharmacologic Stress Test

A nuclear stress test designed for individuals unable to exercise on a treadmill. This test involves injecting a medication called Persantine or Dobutamine to mimic exercise conditions on the heart.

MUGA Scan

A nuclear test to observe the function of the heart including how the walls contract and how much blood is pumped out during each contraction.

Echocardiogram

An echocardiogram (ECHO) is an ultrasound of your heart.  The heart is viewed on a screen with the use of a transducer and ultrasound gel.

Stress Echocardiogram

A test  incorporating cardiac stress testing with echocardiographic imaging.

Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram

A stress echocardiogram for individuals unable to do exercise testing.  It involves an injection of a medication, Dobutamine, to mimic exercise on the heart.

Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)

TEE is a specialized type of cardiac exam where physicians obtain ultrasound images of the heart from a transducer positioned in the esophagus behind the heart.

Carotid Ultrasound

An ultrasound of your carotid arteries in your neck which supply blood to the brain. This exam can help show: blood flow, narrowing or blockage of the arteries, early stages of cerebral vascular disease and it is utilized as a surgical follow up procedure.

Bypass Graft Surveillance

An ultrasound of your bypass graft. This exam helps the physician determine blood flow and whether the bypass is patent (open), narrowed or blocked.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Exam

An ultrasound of your abdominal aorta. Measurements are taken to determine if the artery is dilated or aneurismal. This exam is done in the morning as you must follow a fasting protocol.

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Exam

An ultrasound of your veins allowing the physician to determine if there is Superficial Phlebitis, Deep Vein Thrombosis or Valvular Insufficiency. The vessels are viewed on a screen with the use of a transducer and ultrasound gel. The technician narrates the exam as it is recorded on a video tape.

Pulse Volume Recording (PVR)

A blood pressure test of the arteries in your arms or legs. Blood pressure cuffs are applied to your arms, legs and feet and inflated individually at each level several times. Numbers and waves are recorded on a graph. The physician can determine  blood flow, hardening of the arteries and narrowed or blocked arteries.

Holter Monitor & Event Recorder

Monitors worn for a specific period of time to observe changes in the heart rate and rhythm during daily activities.

Pacemaker Check

A evaluation of a pacemaker to ensure appropriate function and battery life.

Cardiac Catheterization

An invasive exam involving use of a catheter inserted into the heart to observe blood supply through the coronary arteries as well as heart function.
